A Smart Splurge for Your Custom Home

A Smart Splurge for Your Custom Home

If you could splurge on only one area of your custom home, what would it be?  A lavish backyard area with an outdoor kitchen?  Marble countertops?  Top of the line lighting fixtures?  Every homeowner we meet here at B.E.C. Custom Homes has a completely different wish list for their dream house.  But if we were to make a recommendation on one part of your custom home on which to splurge, our answer might surprise you:  spray foaming the roofing deck.

As unglamorous as it might sound, spray foaming the roofing deck of your new home is one of the best ways to utilize extra funds:  it’s a smart investment that absolutely pays for itself.  Spray foam is a type of insulation used in building construction in order to provide thermal insulation and minimize air infiltration.

We all know that summers in the Augusta, GA area can be brutal, with temperatures often soaring above one hundred degrees.  Most of us in the south have been on the receiving end of those enormous summertime electric bills!  With the sun beating down on the roof of your home, it makes sense that the majority of the heat entering your home during these hot months comes in through your roof deck.  By spray foaming your roof deck, your attic will be an average of only 10 degrees warmer or cooler than the rest of your house.

Not only does the spray foam insulation save you money by significantly reducing your power bills, it also affords you a great deal of extra storage space for items you wouldn’t otherwise be able to keep in your attic.  Important documents and papers such as birth certificates, passports, marriage certificates, and particularly photos aren’t meant to withstand extreme temperatures.  The same goes for electronics, as they can be easily damaged by heat.  Other things such as candles, artwork, and various family heirlooms need to be kept in cool conditions.  The insulation on the roof deck will allow you to keep all of those precious items safely stored in your attic without the worry of heat damage.
